My check engine light came on right after changing the fuel sending unit?
the hole that the sending unit was covering was removed for about 2 hours(used a rag to cover it up)but there was a full tank of gas in there. When the gas went down to about 3/4 tank, the light came on. Could this be because of air being in the tank? It's been 3 days, so how long should I drive before taking it to the mechanic? everything else works just fine
Most likely your check engine light is a p0440, or SMALL EVAPORATE LEAK. You may have disturbed or damaged the purge vent solenoid when you removed your fuel tank. Could be as simple as tightening the gas cap all of the way, or fueling the auto while it is running. Also common is failed purge vent silinoid. Basically your vehicle is leaking the evaporated gas vapors from your fuel system, which is bad for the environment. Here in new York State if this is a problem on cars 95 or newer it will not pass the yearly state inspection. Go to the local Auto Zone and ask them to scan your auto through the OBD2 connection under your dash and give you the code. They will do it for free and it will give you a good idea of where to start. The check engine light can come on for hundreds of reasons, bad O2 sensor, misfire, or any number of things. First find out what the CODE is and then let me know and I can point you in the right direction on what to do next. Hope this helps.
