Why does this happen to my car?
I may have used the wrong word, it didn't specifically crack, I was just told it's damaged and needs replacing.
My car is loud, VERY loud, it sounds like a tractor, also the fuel consumption is awful, it's using nearly double. It is also lacking in power, my car will takes ages to accelerate.
But yeah, it's all getting repaired tomorrow, I'm just wondering why a damaged manifold gasket causes this?
Vehicles are designed to maximize fuel efficiency by using the resistance of your exhaust system, because sensors give constant feed back to the computer telling it how much fuel to mix with the air coming into the system and compensate for how much is going out of the system not burned. When the back flow pressure of your exhaust drops this gives most system an indication that you are accelerating and there fore more fuel is required to mix in the combustion chamber, when it might not be the case. The lack of power is due to too much fuel going into the ignition and not been burnt sort of like choking the ignition by burn, and this also creates that lag on acceleration. Mind you that if you drive your vehicle in such conditions for a while you will need to check your spark plugs for damage or gunk and in most cases you will have to replace them.
